The side panel says "Reload the page to activate protection"
The amber indicator is not an error — it is Shield being honest that the current tab isn't protected yet.
What it means
Shield's protection attaches to an AI-tool page when the page loads. A tab that was already open before you signed in or before an extension update/reload doesn't have the protection attached, so the side panel's current-site banner shows the amber dot with Reload the page to activate protection instead of the green Monitoring.
The fix
Reload that tab (a hard reload is safest). The banner switches to the green dot and Monitoring — done.
Why doesn't Shield reload it for me?
Reloading a tab can throw away work — a half-written prompt, an unsaved conversation. After extension updates Shield does re-attach protection to open AI-tool tabs quietly, without reloading, wherever it can; the amber indicator is the fallback for exactly the tabs it could not reach. There, the reload stays your call.
Note: if you see the indicator on many tabs at once, you probably just signed in with a window full of pre-opened AI tools — reload the ones you are actively using; the rest attach whenever they are next loaded.
